Mainstream cinema thrives on mass appeal, leveraging branding and media power to captivate audiences of all ages. In contrast, independent cinema carves its own path, operating within tighter budgets while championing creativity and original storytelling. The posters of independent films often embody this ethos, serving as powerful, resourceful tools to promote groundbreaking artistry and visionary filmmaking.
This exhibition presents a collection of 30 iconic independent films, reinterpreted through the lens of contemporary graphic design. Students from HSD have reimagined these films’ posters, crafting bold, innovative visuals that bridge the gap between past and present. With fresh perspectives, they celebrate the essence of these films while exploring how graphic design can transform a poster into a compelling brand for the stories we love.
