*Echoes of Time* explores the temporal and spatial dimensions of sound.
The work investigates the interplay between acoustic instruments and electronics,
combining conventional compositional strategies with AI-assisted processes.
Structured in a sequence of fluid yet clearly articulated sections, the composition illuminates different aspects of the interaction between saxophone, viola, and electronics. The specific instrumentation, together with the exploration of distance, positioning, responsiveness, and spatiality, forms an essential component of the compositional concept.
The development of individual musical motifs emerged through interactions with both freely accessible and partially commercial AI applications. The integration of AI systems into selected stages of the compositional workflow has proven to be an engaging and productive extension of the composer’s recent artistic practice, enabling further experimentation and the refinement of personal creative methodologies.
The performance is realized using a five-string violin, a hybrid instrument designed to bridge the sonic and technical characteristics of the violin and viola.
“Echoes of Time” was composed and produced with the generous support of Kunststiftung NRW. The work was commissioned for Enzo Filippetti and his SaxFestival 2025 in Rome, where it received its world premiere.
