Cassie Thornton: The Re-distribution of Personal Risk and the Production of Collective Energy
The world systems that we rely on put us all in unequal amounts of growing danger. We've been taught that our health and stability is our individual responsibility even though we inhabit a world of threats, and still we believe we are a burden when we ask for support. Meanwhile, magic lies all around us, and everyone has the capacity to heal and be healed. How can we use peer to peer health practices to blow through the walls of individualism, distribute personal risk, and produce new energy in the process?
Artist Cassie Thornton, of the Feminist Economics Department (the FED), will discuss The Hologram, a mythoreal collective peer-to-peer health project. In this talk, Thornton will report on learnings taking place "in the field" as The Hologram grows as a transglobal practice alongside the ballooning known-unknowns presented by the death drive of racial capitalism and COVID-19.
The Hologram, based on the understanding that all our crises are connected and everyone is a little sick, is a viral four-person health monitoring and diagnostic system practiced from couches all over the world.
