Retail design reflects economic interests of retail trade, socio cultural expectations and the needs of the population in their capacity as consumers as well as the social and ecologi cal requirements of urban society overall. Students of the Retail Design bachelor’s programme have access to the broad range of courses at the Faculty of Design. They can expand and deepen their skills according to their interests in different fields of application of design (typography, photography, cor porate design, moving image, illustration, interactive design). We are well-equipped with more than 100 professors and lecturers from science and the industries as well as our workshops and laboratories for wood, metal, plastics and 3D printing.
Career Options
Career prospects for retail designers are diverse and will continue to grow in response to ongoing developments in both bricks-and-mortar retail and e-commerce. Competing against digital sales models, the retail sector is increasingly focusing on design-oriented approaches, communication expertise and raising the level of academic qualification among employees.
Possible areas of employment include:
- Visual merchandising and communication design within retail companies or their consultants and service providers
- Store and retail design as an employee in a commercial business, in a retail-focused architectural firm or in the field of trade fair, exhibition and event design
- Communication management and marketing within retail companies or their consultants and service providers
- Freelance work with an agency specialising in retail design communications and marketing
